Targeted Abuse In Secondlife

 We all sit on Secondlife for one reason or another- whether it's that you have a disability and this is your outlet to do what you can't IRL- or need a break from the stress around you and build tanks because it's something that's way cheaper to do in SL than RL. 

There are so many reasons for us to be here. My reason? I work from home and find that, admittedly, yes I am someone who is chronically online and I use SL as an artistic outlet and a way to connect with people online. As someone who has Autism, I find it rather difficult to make friends and maintain them IRL- so it's just easier this way and better for my mental health. 

However there are people who like to use SL "wrong", lets say, those who use it to troll or abuse others. A hot topic amongst people is "targeted abuse" and how easy it is for people to do. 

I've found myself recently someone who has been on the targeted end of abuse from some stranger who, for some reason, allows me to live rent free in their minds. 

This abuse has been going on for about a month now and although I report it- nothing seems to get done about it. 

So- the question is, how do you survive it? When it's something that can effect your outlet? Blocking seems the proper way, right? Reporting them doesn't work; it's effectively like receiving a slap on the wrist and on they go. 

It's never the outcome you want, nor need. 

So what is the right way? I've learned to be sassy and block them, until the next account comes along. You don't have to play along with their abuse, but remind them that YOU are the one who lives rent free in their mind and that should diminish their existence a little. 

Abuser: Still crying for attention?

Me: I don't need to, you're giving me attention for free and allowing me to live rent free in your mind. 

Block.

It made me smile a little knowing that it'd piss them off. That person will live rent free in my mind until I post this and move on.

Secondlife is called that for a reason- there are a million and one things to do and if you choose to use the platform to abuse others, I think you might live a sad little existence. Me, on the other hand, I'm going to make a sexy outfit for an event and then hang with my man. That's how I choose to live my SL.
